Having a fleet of truck drivers comes along with lots of responsibilities. While you may be thinking solely about the equipment they drive, their benefit, and gas, those are not the only essentials that need to be running through your mind. Rather, here are four must-haves to keep your drivers safe throughout the entire year.
Roadside Assistance Program
When it comes to a fleet of vehicles, you need to be thinking about maintenance and roadside assistance. While you may be performing regular maintenance or having a shop do it for you, they can’t prevent every problem. Sometimes breakdowns occur on the highway and you need to have a defined system to follow when they do. This system should include a roadside assistance program or a fleet of your own service vehicles. Either way, the program or service vehicles should be put in place and ready to enact when an emergency breakdown happens with one of your drivers.
Extra Maintenance Parts
Each truck should undergo a visual inspection by your drivers before they hit the road. This helps to detect small problems before they turn into bigger issues. It’s always a good idea to keep extra maintenance parts around so they can be easily replaced. For example, if your driver notices that their headlight is not working, you should have an extra Scania left hand headlamp on hand for them to easily replace.
GPS Systems
Your drivers should be supplied with some sort of GPS navigation system. This will work to give them the directions they need to get from place to place. In addition, many of these GPS systems are enabled with various features that can benefit both you and the driver. They can alert your drivers of any road closings or traffic accidents so they can navigate around them with ease. Plus, you can monitor their speed levels on various roadways to ensure they’re driving at a safe speed.
Emergency Breakdown Equipment
While you may not want to think about your drivers breaking down, it’s important to do so. If their truck stops running, they need to have emergency breakdown equipment to keep them safe. This equipment includes things like emergency lighting, flares, blankets, and so forth.
Keeping your truck drivers safe on the roadway should be your number one priority. The above are just four of the various must-haves for all your drivers. You should ensure that none of your trucks leave your lot until they’re equipped with these minimal must-haves.
