Christopher Landon, the mind behind Happy Death Day and Freaky, is back—and this time, he’s dialing up the suspense in Drop, a taut psychological thriller that channels the best of Hitchcock with a razor-sharp commentary on tech and trust in today’s digital world.
Starring Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus) and Brandon Sklenar (1923), Drop opens on what seems to be a perfectly ordinary date—but as the story unfolds, it becomes clear that nothing about this encounter is what it seems. Landon’s storytelling flips the familiar thriller structure on its head, much like he did with his reinventions of the horror-comedy genre.
“I’m a giant Hitchcock fan,” Landon shared, “and I thought this felt like a modern Hitchcock movie. I also really wanted to bring back the ‘90s thriller, which I think has been really absent from cinema.”
But Drop isn’t just about suspense and surprise. Landon hopes the film gets viewers talking about the way we interact online. “Often because people can hide behind technological anonymity, they feel like they have some kind of permission to, in some cases, be really abusive—and that’s not okay,” he explained. “So I’m kind of hoping that’s a conversation people have.”
Currently showing in theaters across the U.S., Drop is already climbing the JustWatch Streaming Charts—proof that audiences are hungry for smart, stylish thrillers that do more than just entertain.
