How To Become CPR Certified

nancyrubinJanuary 18, 2021January 18, 2021

A CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) certification is beneficial. It does not matter if you are a healthcare professional or a private individual; it’s helpful both as a useful skill and a great addition to your resume. Also, it is great to have during emergency scenarios where there are no paramedics nearby. One advantage of CPR certification is that it’s a crucial skill set that can be acquired after a single class. Getting certified is also flexible because many CPR programs are accredited, and you can also sign up for online courses. Residents can also attend CPR classes offered by communities. For people working in the medical field, being certified is a must. It’s also vital to get CPR certification if you work as a nanny, babysitter, or caregiver.

Sign Up For Accredited CPR Programs

This is the first step towards becoming CPR certified. You can access CPR training classes in most cities. There are classes available in community training centers, universities, and also community colleges. You can decide where you feel comfortable with taking the classes. You should, however, ensure that the program is accredited.

Once you decide you’re going to pursue a particular course, you have to determine what skills you want to acquire. You can sign up for adult CPR or pediatric CPR. You can also do both. If you’re going to pursue a much more advanced course, you can sign up for an AED Training course. When looking at the type of accreditation for a specific course, look out for official accrediting organizations such as the American Council on Exercise, National Strength and Conditioning Organization, Girl Scouts USA, among others that are state-specific. Another important thing is to ensure that the teacher instructing you is certified and licensed to teach CPR courses.

Finish Off The Training

Training for CPR certification is done through both classroom instruction and practical training on different topics such as mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Such hands-on training is done using mannequins. They are also used to train people on how to do chest compressions and conduct other first-aid basics. Upon finishing training, you’ll be awarded certifications that demonstrate you have fully mastered the different principles involved. To check whether you’re entirely ready to become CPR certified, an evaluation has to be done. You’ll be tested and evaluated through exams that are both written and practical as well. With some CPR programs, you can do online exams and hands-on training, which is convenient for people who can’t take physical classes. You can take those anytime you feel comfortable after you have finished the training.

Should You Consider Signing Up For Refresher Classes?

Yes, you should. If you took a CPR training course years ago, this is an excellent way to ensure your skills are still distinct. You will also learn about any updates that are there in CPR and even in other emergency response techniques. A refresher course keeps you updated and also sharpens your skills more. You can stay confident about what you know. Even if an emergency arises, you’re sure you can handle it well. It’s mandatory to take a refresher course in some states to get your certification current. In this case, taking a refresher course every few years is a must. The CPR classes offered in most programs are usually elementary, and they take only a couple of hours to complete. However, the skills you acquire are useful to you for the rest of your life. You can save a lot of lives in different emergency scenarios. They’re fundamental skills for anyone to have.

Bottom Line

Getting CPR certified isn’t such a daunting task. The classes are concise and hands-on training easy to learn. With multiple programs available, getting a place to acquire all the skills you need isn’t hard. Nonetheless, before taking on any CPR training course, it’s essential to take on accredited programs. This ensures you acquire training and evaluation that’s standardized. The teacher offering the training should also be accredited. You can learn basic pediatric CPR and adult CPR, or you can also do a specialized training course that’s more advanced. Getting started and training on CPR isn’t very hard, yet being CPR certified is a lifetime benefit. You never know when the skills will be needed. You will be able to utilize them anyplace and anytime, especially during emergencies.
