Every now and then, we might come across a product and ask ourselves “why have I never considered using that before?” and it’ll end up changing our lives. This is all too common these days because so many people are inventing new products that are extremely practical, yet they never get much attention because they’re buried under all of the big-name brands that are trying to steal those original ideas.
So in this post, we’re going to share a couple of useful household items that will transform your home and make things a lot more comfortable.

Reusing glass jars and food tins for various things around the house
If you’re really into reusing things and taking a green approach to living then you’ll be glad to know that there are dozens of fantastic uses for glass jars and food tins. Instead of just recycling them, why not upcycle them by giving them a good clean and then using them in a few of these places:
- Turn your glass jars into planters! A large jar can be a stylish way to put houseplants around your home and they’re really convenient to hang off things as well.
- You can use food tins as a desk tidy. Simply clean them out and try to smooth out any rough or sharp edges. Then place it on your desk and use it as a little pen pot. You can even decorate them, making it a great craft project!
Slippery bathroom floors? Worry no more
If your bathroom tiles have been getting a little slippery then it could be due to a number of things. It could be due to dirt and grime that’s caked on the tiles, but this can easily be cleaned with a bit of elbow grease. The more likely reason is that they’re simply slippery by nature due to the moisture in the room and the smooth surface.
This is a surprisingly big problem, but it can be fixed with a bit of waterproof grip tape. When placed in the right locations, it can ensure that you won’t slip in your bathroom or even your bathtub. It’s also great for patios and other locations where you might slip. It’s an extremely useful item that you can buy once and keep in your toolbox for a long time.
Repurposing wooden crates and boxes
Wooden boxes and crates are fantastic for decorating your house as they’re essentially just pieces of wood that you can use as furniture or even decorations. You might get these with large and heavy deliveries, or you might get a wooden box as part of a gift over the holidays. Some products are sold inside wooden crates, and you might be able to find a few unused shelves or pieces of wooden furniture that you don’t need anymore.
With a little bit of DIY knowledge, you can transform these things into unique shelves, planters, or even storage compartments. There’s no shortage of ideas here and you can get as creative as you want!
