When you get your business up and running, you can expect to go on a rollercoaster of emotions. It might even take you by surprise if you’re not prepared for it all. Here are some of the emotions that you are guaranteed to experience when you start your own business for the first time.
- Fear
To start with, you’re going to feel fear. This is completely natural. Who wouldn’t be scared when stepping into the world of business with little or no past experience to back them up? It’s a scary thing to do, but this fear can be harnessed in powerful ways. You can subvert it by telling yourself you have nothing to lose. You don’t have a reputation yet, so you can take more risks than others. And remember that your business rivals will also fear you as the new kid on the block.
- Panic
There will be times when you feel panicked and unsure what to do. When you have no experience to fall back on, it’s easy to panic when even the smallest things go wrong. This is when you need to keep your emotions under control and try to think rationally. There is a way out of pretty much every bad situation in business if you’re rational about it. You can use Infrascale systems for disaster recovery if you’re worried about tech failures, for example.
- Regret
When you make mistakes in business, as you probably will, you’ll start to feel regret. Don’t let that feeling take over and get the better of you, though. It’s the kind of feeling that will drag you down if you’re not careful. It’s not a healthy situation to be in. So, instead, try to look for the positive and analyse the negatives. Rather than regretting things you did wrong, just focus on doing them better and getting them right in the future. In the end, that’s all you can do anyway.
- Euphoria
As well as things going wrong, things will also go right for you. This is another side of the coin, and one that you shouldn’t forget. That feeling of euphoria you get when you find success, even if it’s just a small success, should be cherished and savoured. This is what being in business is all about, so why not make the most of it? It’s these positive times and experiences that will help you to get through the times when you are not doing quite as well as you’d like to.
- Pride
Finally, you will, hopefully, feel pride at some point. Building a business is something to be proud of when it does well and does good things. There is nothing wrong with feeling proud of what you have achieved in business. It’s important not to get too comfortable with your situation, though. Just because you’re proud of what you have done, that doesn’t mean you can’t do even more. That’s what all the best business owners tell themselves, so keep that in mind.
