4 Things You Need to Keep Your Distribution Warehouse Running Smoothly

nancyrubinMarch 24, 2020March 24, 2020

When it comes to ensuring that your customers have easy access to your products, a distribution warehouse is a necessity. This gives you a great place to store your excess products so they’re ready when your customers place orders. Here are four necessities that you should have at your distribution warehouse to ensure your operations run smoothly.

Labels And Signage

At the most basic level, you need to have labels and signage at your warehouse. These are extremely helpful for staff members to identify where each specific product is at. It also cuts down on the amount of time it takes to train new employees. In addition, signage can help to indicate when there are hazardous materials or a safety danger present to keep your employees safe on the job.

Lifts

Most warehouses make use of multi-level storing racks. Getting access to the items on different levels requires the use of various lifts. If you haven’t invested in any lifts yet, there are many used scissor lifts for sale. These are preferred over a traditional ladder or step lift as they take less time and energy for your staff to utilize.

Packaging Equipment

The products that your customers order are going to be shipped directly from your distribution warehouse. Therefore, you’ll need packaging equipment that can prepare the product for safe transport to your customers. Depending on whether or not your customers are retailers or final customers will determine just what type of packaging equipment you have. Some common pieces of packaging equipment include box scales, barrels, pallets, strapping, stretch wrap machines, and banding equipment,

Conveyors

Moving your products from one location to another can be a large task for human movement. Conveyors can help to expedite the transportation process and reduce the number of physical employees that you’ll need on-site. Depending on the size of your facility, you may find that you’ll need different sizes or types of conveyors. New conveyors do come with the flexible option of contracting them into storage when they’re not in use. This can help to save some valuable space in your warehouse location when the conveyor isn’t in use.

Your distribution warehouse needs many essential components to operate smoothly. The above are just four of the major ones that you should consider. Remember that investing in the right equipment can help your distribution warehouse operate more smoothly which means happier customers and more sales for your business overall.
