Everywhere you look, trends are changing rapidly. It seems like people have finally woken up and started paying more attention to their health and the health of our planet too. While certain trends are easy to change (we’re looking at you, fashion industry), there are trends that seemed to have been set in stone for ages. Certain industries find it very challenging to update their practices and make them more environmentally friendly. However, things have started looking a whole lot greener in recent years in the industrial sector, and we can’t wait to tell you all about it.
Batteries that age like wine
You might not have been familiar with the name John Goodenough, but you are very familiar with his work and contribution to society. He was the co-inventor of the lithium-ion battery, and even though he is almost a hundred years old today, he claims to have had his hand in the invention of lithium-glass battery. This battery has twice as much energy density than the old one, and not only that, but its capacity will increase with age. As if that’s not enough, these batteries should be able to operate at much lower temperatures and won’t need as much time to charge. They state that the batteries should be launched in 2022, and we can’t wait to see if it’s going to be as good as they say.
Hobbit hole homes
We bet there wasn’t a child who didn’t dream about living in a Hobbit hole when they first laid eyes on them in LOTR movies. Not just kids, but adults found these homes lovely and started looking at different ways to implement similar elements into modern homes, especially with different commercial building trends currently changing the market. Small modular buildings are completely covered in soil which acts as great climate control device and makes the building look great too. Not only that, but homes made of soil are incredibly sturdy and durable, and what is more – you can even plant something on the roof!
Water activated tape
Another amazing innovation comes from the packaging industry – water-activated tape. This tape is becoming incredibly popular because not only is it very durable and adheres to cartons with amazing strength, it’s also biodegradable and can be recycled. Another thing that people in the industry have noticed about this tape is that it works wonders even when the environment is very dirty, which is the reason why it can be seen in a number of warehouses and around shipping containers. What is more, this tape can be removed from the surface without leaving a mark, which is an aesthetic angle that shouldn’t be ignored.
Renewable energy sources
More and more businesses have been turning to renewable energy sources, and there have been major steps forward to ensure that we are using the maximum power of water, wind, and the sun. Solar lighting towers are amazing for several reasons: they don’t need cables, are completely silent, emit no fumes and require no cranes or trucks to be moved or positioned. Whatever kid of light a site might need, these solar-powered towers can provide it. In addition to all of this, they are incredibly low maintenance, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that a great number of businesses have started using them.
Reducing carbon footprints
Even though some industries can reduce their carbon footprints with minor changes to their routine, tech companies as well as corporate businesses find it difficult to transition. Because computers use a lot of energy, businesses should encourage employers to shut them down at the end of their workdays and to turn off those default screen-saver triggers. Also, each business should do regular utility maintenance to ensure that their transformer is in good condition and that each of their utility machines works well enough. Those companies that have to replace their old machines are massively choosing to swap them for energy-efficient electronics that come with high Energy Star ratings.
More sustainable advertising
As we all know, it’s marketing and advertising that are capable of making or breaking a business, which is why it’s an ever-growing and incredibly dynamic industry with lots of innovations. It is exactly why so many business owners have started implementing eco-friendly advertising techniques, and users love it. For most parts, this means that businesses aren’t printing leaflets and catalogs on paper but are turning to the digital sphere entirely. Another great new invention is so-called sustainable billboards, which are essentially just like typical old billboards, only digital. Not only are these billboards saving paper and color, but they are also energy-efficient.
It would be wonderful to live in a world that only uses renewable energy sources with neither pollution nor waste. However, that vision is still too far in the future. We can make this happen sooner, though, is to follow what eco-friendly trends are currently popular and support them. Suppose we focus on the positive and encourage these environmentally-friendly changes in different industries. In that case, we are helping the world take a step closer to that vision and become a cleaner and healthier place.
