Everyone has to go to a hardware now and then. It’s a basic necessity and has been so for hundreds of years. Everybody needs something from the hardware store at one point or another. But many hardware stores are small, dark and finding specific items can be very hard. According to a few customers we’ve interviewed, we know that customers want to find what they need easily. In addition, they want to receive good advice on how to complete a project at hand.
Organization
These are the reasons why you must plan the layout and organization of your hardware store. Planning and organization are critical for this type of business because there are many small parts, accessories, and items customers need to buy together to get the job done. Customers of this type of business want to find the things they need conveniently so that they can get in and out of the store quickly. The following are a few tips on how to organize your hardware store.
Improve the Lighting
Lighting can change the way people feel when visiting a hardware store. It can make the storm seem more modern, and if you install proper lighting, your store will stand out from the competition, as most small hardware stores have poor lighting. Customers need to feel comfortable in the store and know that they can easily see all of the products. Choose the right quality and quantity of lights to make your products stand out.
Use Logical Placement of Items
The organization and order of your products need to be according to type, related accessories, and brand. Once you know these placements, you can also position items in rows according to brand, size, and color.
Place heavy duty plastic storage bins on the shelf under a display item so customers can take parts directly from the bin. Just make sure bins are clear so customers can see the part they need. You can also use large plastic bins to move small items and position them correctly. Place small parts and place them on shelves so customers can access them easily. If you place items in a logical order, your customers can find what they need quickly.
Clean as You Go
It’s going to be quite challenging to get your hardware organized. However, as you plan and set your items out, be sure to clean and remove the products that are not selling well. Make sure you clean and dust everything as you go. Train your employees to keep all of your display items clean and dust-free.
We know that organizing and reorganizing your hardware store is a lot of work. There are a lot of items, and often, some things go with others. But if you work slowly, take notes, and clean and dust items in the store, you will make it easier for visitors to come in and buy. You will also create customer loyalty and bring them back in for other things they need.
