Audiences may be growing tired of superhero movies, but Spider-Man appears to be an exception.
Ahead of the theatrical release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, new survey data from JustWatch shows strong enthusiasm among U.S. fans. According to the streaming guide, 68% of those surveyed said they are excited about the upcoming film.
That excitement is also driving audiences back to theaters. Among respondents planning to watch the movie, 63% said they intend to see it on the big screen rather than wait for it to become available on a streaming service. At a time when audiences have grown accustomed to watching major releases from home, that level of theatrical interest is notable.
Spider-Man Survives Superhero Fatigue
The survey also highlights the growing challenge facing the superhero genre. Forty-three percent of respondents said they are losing interest in superhero movies. However, Spider-Man continues to maintain his appeal: 45% of those experiencing superhero fatigue still said they are excited about Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The findings suggest that audiences may not be finished with superhero stories altogether. Instead, they may be becoming more selective about which characters and films earn their attention. Spider-Man’s popularity, familiar story, and multigenerational fan base may help the character succeed even as enthusiasm for the broader genre cools.
Which Spider-Man Team-Up Do Fans Want Next?
Fans are also thinking beyond the upcoming film. When asked which character or team they would most like to see paired with Spider-Man in a future project, respondents selected:
- Spider-Man and Deadpool: 22%
- Spider-Man and Daredevil: 21%
- Spider-Man and Venom: 19%
- Spider-Man and the X-Men: 18%
- Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four: 11%
- Spider-Man and Wolverine: 8%
Deadpool narrowly took the top spot, but the close results show that fans are interested in several possible directions for Spider-Man’s future. A partnership with Daredevil could offer a street-level story, while Venom, the X-Men, or the Fantastic Four could open the door to larger crossover events.
A Promising Sign for the Theatrical Release
The survey results point to a promising theatrical run for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. While superhero fatigue remains a concern for studios, Spider-Man still appears capable of generating excitement, inspiring crossover ideas, and encouraging audiences to leave their couches for the movie theater.
The web-slinger may be returning at exactly the right time—and fans seem ready to welcome him back.
