When you run a brick and mortar store, presentation is everything. Ensure your store is kept clean by following these steps.
Have Employees Clean As They Go
Your employees need to make a commitment to keeping your store clean and orderly. They should make multiple rounds around the store throughout the day to check for messes or merchandise displays that have been affected. Development of a regular cleaning routine is essential. If an employee is responsible for a mess, they need to take responsibility and adequately clean it up right away. Include this information and the importance of it in employee training to ensure it is understood.
Invest in the Right Cleaning Products
You can’t keep your store clean without having adequate cleaning products on hand. These are items your business should certainly invest in and can include mops, cleaning solutions, brooms, paper towels and more. Cleaners such as Isopropyl Alcohol 100 can be used to disinfect as well as remove marks, stains and other unsightly blemishes from windows, counters and more. It’s often worth it to invest in commercial-grade products for their strength and greater quantity.
Maintain Surfaces and Fixtures
A store will also begin to look ill-maintained if the floors, the walls, the counters or other surfaces show noticeable wear. Wear and tear on store fixtures can also begin to present a problem. At best, this looks unsightly and at worst could prove to be hazardous, at it could cause falls or injuries. Notice when these issues arise and take action to either repair or replace them. Try and keep clutter from building up on shelves and counters as well.
Hire a Cleaning Service
Some businesses benefit from hiring a cleaning service to come in and clean the store regularly. Some retail businesses, especially if they have office space for certain employees, may even consider adding a custodian directly to the payroll. A dedicated cleaning service can take that burden off of your other employees so they can focus on performing their other duties. It can also keep your store looking neat and professional at all times.
It pays to keep both the inside and the outside of your store clean. A dirty, disorganized store will affect employee morale and turn off customers. A bright, clean, welcoming one, on the other hand, will be very attractive.
